Test methods for eye protection

Eye protection testing literally involves shooting a projectile at the glasses or visor.

Mechanical testing

If your glasses are marked "S", they have been mechanically tested. The test is performed by dropping a steel ball with a 22 mm diameter against the protective glass at a speed of 5.1 m/s.

Optical testing

If your glasses are marked 1, 2 or 3, this is a quality indicator. Class 1 is the best class in terms of optical properties.

Additional tests

If your glasses are marked F, B or A, they have been tested against high-speed particles. In this test, a steel ball with a diameter of 6 mm is shot at the protective glass.

  • F = Low energy impact at 45 m/s
  • B = Medium energy impact at 120 m/s
  • A = High energy impact at 190 m/s
